1. HB Bronze Coffee Bar
Location: Santa Barbara
Opening hours:
Mon – Fri: 8:30am – 10pm
Sat: 9am – 9:30pm Sun: 9am – 9pm
We’re starting strong with my favourite coffee shop in all of La Paz – HB Bronze. It’s a serious accolade but this place deserves it. In the middle of the bustling city you’ll find this cosy quiet oasis of calm designed to look like an old library, the friendliest staff and brilliant barista coffee.
My partner and I loved it here so much on a couple of days we actually had morning coffee at HB Bronze, returned later for lunch and then came back for afternoon cake. It’s just such a lovely environment, the coffee shop has an antique feel that’s really nice to relax in and alongside tasty coffee they have a full lunch menu and range of mouth-watering sweet treats.
If you only have time to visit one coffee shop – make it HB Bronze!
2. The Writer’s Coffee
Location: Santa Barbara
Opening hours:
Mon – Fri: 9am – 7:30pm
Sat – Sun: Closed
A close second for me is their sister café – The Writer’s Coffee. This site has all the same charm and old world feel, excellent coffee and tasty lunch options but does get pretty busy. It’s closer to the main old town sights and actually set within one of the government buildings which is why it’s only open during the week.
So if you’re heading to Plaza Murillo or any of the main museums and galleries around the square, this is a brilliant option to grab a coffee and soak up the local culture.
3. Typica Café
Locations: Sopocachi, Calacoto, San Miguel, Centro, Achumani and Obrajes
Opening hours:
Mon – Sun: 8am – 11pm (varies by location but generally around these hours)
For the highest quality coffee in town, head to one of the coffee houses owned by popular local roastery, Typica. It’s named after the variety of coffee cultivated only in Bolivia for its unique blend of floral and vanilla flavours and the company pride themselves on living up to that name, balancing the art and science of coffee for the perfect cup!
Each of their coffee shops is bright, beautiful, fun and fresh. Plus, they’re often set within traditional buildings that have been lovingly converted into cosy cafés without losing their local meaning. Head to the closest spot to you to kick back and enjoy or even join a barista workshop to sharpen your skills.
Hungry for a light snack or lunch while you’re there? No worries, they have a full menu too!
4. Biofilia Café

Another lovely spot is Biofilia – a speciality coffee shop born from a love of nature. The café is known for it’s menu of delicious coffee and food crafted with only the highest quality organic plant-based ingredients to lessen their impact on our environment.

8. Cafetería Sultana
Location: Sopocachi
Opening hours:

Last but by no means least is artistic Cafetería Sultana named after a Bolivian hot drink made with dried coffee cherries to make use of the whole plant.
