Best budget accommodation

We’re kicking things off with the best value accommodation in Cirencester. That’s right – if you know where to look, even in the Cotswolds you can find a budget deal!

These three properties prioritise fantastic customer service, a welcoming atmosphere and super clean spaces. I’ve also plotted them on the map below to help you plan your trip.

  • Price per night: from £36
  • Sleeps: from 1 – 4 beds
The Barrel Store Hostel, Cirencester

First things first, you won’t find a cheaper night’s stay than the Barrel Store. This is a YHA owned and managed hostel right in the heart of the town. It’s a fantastic option for budget travellers or those only in town for one night that want easy access to the centre.

Plus, don’t worry, we’re not even talking shared dorm rooms here! For £36 per night you can enjoy your own private single room with a private bathroom. They do also have twin, double and family rooms sleeping up to four people so it’s perfect for families on a budget too.

And if you’re craving a little company or want to cook any of your own meals, the Barrel Store also has a shared kitchen and dining area that’s free to use. Overall, this is a brilliant charity-led hostel where you’re guaranteed a comfortable night’s sleep.

Well Cottage B&B, Cirencester

For an escape into the countryside, just 10 minutes drive from central Cirencester in the tiny village of Ewen you’ll find cosy Well Cottage B&B. Ewen itself is a lovely little place to wander and explore, you’re super close to the source of the River Thames and Cotswold Way Path which make for great walking. Plus, you’re also only a 10 minute drive the other direction to the Cotswold Water Park where water sports and more nature awaits.

The B&B has incredibly comfortable double and twin bed rooms with beautiful views out over their lush English garden and freshly cooked breakfasts each morning. With fantastic service from their super welcoming hosts, this is an incredible value stay for two under £100!

Thames Head Wharf, Cirencester

For more of your own outdoor space even closer to historic walking routes, choose Thames Head Wharf. Just five minutes drive from Cirencester is this gorgeous country house built in 1784 that’s been lovingly turned into a couple of cosy suites by Chris and Ann.

Lastly, Chris and Ann are really generous and knowledgeable hosts offering shuttle services where needed and sharing their best local tips!

Best mid-range accommodation

That’s my budget picks, let’s move onto my mid-range favourites. These spots are perfect for travellers who want to treat themselves a little more but still don’t want to break the bank. There’s plenty of incredible stays at around £150 per night, again I’ve also plotted them on the map below so you can more easily plan your stay!

  • Price per night: from £140
  • Sleeps: up to 5
Holly Cottage, Cirencester

If you’re travelling with friends or family, or just want to spread out (no judgement here!) then Holly Cottage is the exceptionally well reviewed spot. With two extra large double rooms and one single, there’s space for up to five people to sleep in this clean and comfy space.

The generous living room with open fire is the perfect place to relax after a day of walking and the outdoor dining area gives you the opportunity to make the most of late evening sun. Set in the pretty little village of Ampney Crucis, you’re only 10 minutes drive from Cirencester and within walking distance to one of the best pubs (and hotels) in town, The Crown (but more on that later!).

  • Price per night: from £145

King's Head Hotel, Cirencester

If you’re wanting a top quality hotel right in the centre of town then the King’s Head is for you. Perfectly positioned opposite Cirencester’s iconic church, you can step out of the hotel and onto the historic market square.

Choose from a range of one or two bed rooms and mini apartments all furnished with comfort in mind. Think incredible quality bedding, cosy couches and plush carpets that all make it feel like home.

Downstairs, there’s also a full restaurant that not only serves a brilliant breakfast that can be added to your stay but full lunch and dinner menus too. But being in the centre of town, you can dine somewhere new every evening with the top restaurants on your doorstep!

  • Price per night: £149 including breakfast

The Bell At Sapperton, Cirencester

For an intimate escape in the countryside, choose celebrity favourite – The Bell. This is actually where we’re staying on our wedding night for a dose of rustic charm in the the tiny village of Sapperton. Out here you’re still only 10 minutes from central Cirencester but surrounded by woodland and off the beaten track, it feels like a hidden gem.

Some of our favourite walks pass by this pub stroke boutique hotel which means it’s perfect for couples wanting a little quality time outdoors. The pub also serves delicious food with classic Sunday roasts, mouth-watering English classics with chunky triple cooked chips and heavenly desserts. It’s no wonder this quality spot attracts local celebrities…

Best luxury accommodation

Now, for all out luxury and the best of the best, here’s where I would book. These three properties are still in my opinion brilliant value for the quality of service and space that you get and all come in at £300 or under per night. Again, you can see their locations on the map below for reference. Let’s dive in…

  • Price per night: from £155 including breakfast
  • Sleeps: 2
Ingleside House Hotel, Cirencester

If you’re an interiors lover, Ingleside House is a treat. The bold, stylish and luxurious furnishings give this hotel its unique look and charm, playing classic architecture with art deco accents and striking patterns.

This is a really unique hotel with such a fun atmosphere and located right in the heart of Cirencester. You could spend a fantastic weekend here exploring the area and stepping back in to your own personal wonderland to relax.

Plus, at only just over £150 per night with breakfast, this is a really luxurious stay at a great price.

The Cottage, Cirencester

For the quintessential Cotswolds cottage feel straight out of The Holiday, look no further than this. With plush couches by the fire you can sink into to read a good book and a sun-dappled courtyard garden perfect for sipping morning coffee, in my opinion this is the ultimate Cirencester stay.

The cosy cottage is incredibly well designed and furnished to capture the essence of the Cotswolds but with a modern and fresh feel. No detail has been missed or expense spared in making this a practical yet lovely place to be. With two good-sized double bedrooms it’s the perfect space for weekends away with friends or small families.

Plus, the location is fantastic! In just a five minute walk you’re in the centre of Cirencester with all the best coffee shops, restaurants and parks at your fingertips. What could be better?!

  • Price per night: £300 including breakfast

Wild Thyme & Honey Hotel, Cirencester

Last but certainly not least, for ultimate luxury it has to be Wild Thyme & Honey. This is the space to relax, unwind and be pampered. With a selection of boutique rooms with views looking onto the neighbouring stream and freestanding clawfoot tubs this place feels like a dream. Head downstairs and you’re into one of the best restaurants in the area.

Serving everything from the brilliant breakfast that’s included with your stay to tasty lunches and sumptuous dinners, The Crown will have you coming back for every meal. Not to mention their extensive cocktail menu which you can sample in the sun next to the babbling brook… Yes, you will have arrived at heaven 😂

The best part – it’s also only a 10 minute drive outside of Cirencester and surrounded by beautiful walking routes and places to explore!
